Hard Pan Geochemistry

SARB is working on a Hard Pan formation research project where the German Geological Survey has the project lead.  SARB primary issue on this project is to: develop/upgrade a hydrogeochemical modeling program that can handle the upward migration issues in addition to sulfide oxidation, the FLOTRAN computer code by Dr. Peter Lichtner, whom will help on the code development;   teach the usage of the code; assist in evaluation of geochemical data obtained from laboratory experiments.

Waste Rock Geochemistry Modeling

SARB Consulting is working with Dr. Peter Lichtner, Los Alamos National Lab in  predicting seepage water quality from sulfide containing waste rocks.  The modeling involved matrix and macro flow geochemistry, utilizing known mineralogy, soil pH and temperature profiles of the waste rocks to calibrate the modeling.  Parts of the work is being presented at 32 nd International Geological Congress Firence, Italy, August 2004 (Abstract).

REPROCESSING OF TAILINGS MATERIAL

SARB has been working with the New Mexico Bureau of Mines and Mineral Resources, in Socorro, to evaluate the potential for reprocessing the Hanover tailings material for zinc and garnet. This investigation evaluated the potential reduction of contaminates in the tailings material by removal of certain hazardous components, with the goal of producing a product that may have a commercial value.

Waste Rock mixing

SARB Consulting has been working with New Mexico Tech and Continental Mining, on evaluating waste rock mixing.  The mixing consist of weak acid generating waste mixed with limestone waste in different proportions and configurations.

Groundwater Quality

SARB Consulting has been working with New Mexico Tech on evaluating groundwater contamination mobility and control mechanisms for such mobility around a mining operation.

Column Experiments, Neutralizing Capacity,

SARB Consulting has been working with New Mexico Tech on Column Experiments evaluating neutralizing capacity of andesite waste rocks associated with the poly-metallic vein deposit waste rocks at Placer Gulch, Colorado.  The waste dumps contain a larger portion of andesite the acts as a neutralizer.  The research was presented at Tailing and Mine waste conference, Fort Collins, 1996 (Abstract).
