ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES IN TOGO, WEST AFRICA

SARB has provided assistance and recommendations to the Togolaise government regarding environmental issues relating to urban, industrial, agricultural and mining activities, and their impact on vegetation, soil and water resources. SARB is aiding the Togolaise government in writing proposals to the World Bank for funding. These proposals include surveying potential and existing environmental problems in Togo, performing environmental impact assessments, evaluating reclamation/remediation alternatives, and research alternative waste disposal and mining methods to reduce the impact to the environment.
 

SMELTER SLAG AND WASTE, NORWAY

SARB has teamed with Dames and Moore, Norway, to perform site characterization on waste dumps from an active Carbide/Cyenamide smelter in Norway. The work involved field assessment of the dump, understanding of the smelter processes and assessment of the groundwater system in the area.
 

Environmental Impact STATEMENT (eis) AND PIT LAKE WATER QUALITY, Little Rock Mine, URS, New Mexico

SARB Consulting has been assisting US Bureau of Land Management/US Forest Service preparing an Environmental Impact Statement for the Little Rock Project in New Mexico. The work was performed as a sub-contractor to URS and involved geochemical and mineralogical characterization of the ore and waste, modeling pit lake water quality under different closure scenarios and suggesting different closure options based on the geochemical evaluations.

Regional Surface and Groundwater Mine Impact Assessment, Bolivia

SARB Consulting has been assisting the Bolivian Bureau of mines evaluating groundwater surface water impact in the water shed of Saalar de Uyuni and Salar de Coipa, Bolivia, as a subcontractor to former Dames and Moore, Norway.  The work involved evaluating the leaching potential from 10's of old mining operations in the two districts, evaluating surface water quality and groundwater qualities. 

Environmental Assessment, IAMGold, Ecuador

SARB Consulting performed an environmental assessment of IAMGold's exploration project in Southern Ecuador, and suggestions of sampling and analyses for environmental purposes.
