MINE-WASTE AND GROUNDWATER GEOCHEMISTRY IN BOLIVIA

SARB has worked with Bolivian Bureau of Mines as a subcontractor to Dames and Moore Norway, on assessing environmental impact of several mining operations in the Oruro Mining District, Bolivia. This district was mined for silver and tin.  SARB's part of the work involves characterization of tailings and waste rocks, assessing and modeling impact to surface and groundwater and advise the client on remediation / reclamation options and their benefit for the environment.

GROUNDWATER GEOCHEMISTRY, MORENCI MINE, PHELPS DODGE, ARIZONA

SARB Consulting has been assisting Morenci Mine, Arizona on assessing natural impacted springs in the outskirt of the mining operation.  The work involved sampling recommendations, analyses evaluations and geochemical modeling. Groundwater and spring water qualities were compared with old and currently forming manganocrete precipitation around the springs.  Parts of the work is being published at the International Mine Water Association meting, Newcastle, UK in September, 2004 (Abstract). 

PIT LAKE GEOCHEMISTRY, PHELPS DODGE TYRONE MINE, NEW MEXICO

SARB has been contracted to perform pit lake geochemistry predictions for two open pits at the Tyrone mine facility.  The work involved sampling rainwater simulated tests on the pit walls, assembling groundwater and surface water data, evaluating changes of groundwater quality over time and modeling how the pit water quality will change as the pit is let filled with water.
